Damon activated in time for 4th straight triumph

Looks like the Yankees got off to a great second half. Robinson Cano, their young second baseman, went hot right after the All-Star Break, as expected. Who knows what the Yankees will do in their remaining games, including the final 28 at the House that Ruth Built? Will they have a big, or should I say, immense second half like last year?

Anyway, with a 12-4 win over the Minnesota Twins, the Yanks managed to run their home winning streak to eight straight, four straight wins overall. The win cut the Tampa Bay Rays’ lead to just 4.5 games. Awesome. Alex Rodriguez, Cano, and Derek Jeter all went deep, helping the Yanks continue their recent offensive surge. Sidney Ponson earned his 6th win, showing a strong effort, pitching for 5 2/3 innings. Good enough.

Johnny Damon, the Yanks’ left fielder, came back from the DL in time to leadoff for the Bombers. He previously injured himself trying to catch a drive to the fence from the BoSox’s Kevin Youkilis. Damon went 1-4 in the game against the Twins, even scoring some runs. We hope ol’ Johnny continues his clutch hitting, so getting a big bat left fielder (Xavier Nady, Matt Holliday etc) won’t be that urgent. However, as Damon will serve as DH for the next couple of games, maybe left fielders will be a boost. Nothing against Brett Gardner. A catcher, though, might be VERY useful because of the next post…
