Jason Giambi, with his newly grown bushy ’stache and his “Support the ‘Stache” thing for the fans, was a heavy favorite to make the all-star team via the Final Vote online voting program. Someone (two, in fact) had to come along and spoil the possibility of four Yankees in the ASG.
Rays third baseman Evan Longoria beat out Giambi (and second-place Jermaine Dye) in Final Vote and made the final spot in the American League All-Star Team. Well, like the man himself said, Giambi gets four days off.
Meanwhile, in completely different matters, unrelated to the ASG, 36-year old Jorge Posada clearly stated that he would like to catch again. Against the Pirates in the makeup game, Posada started at first base (since there is no DH in the NL) and Jose Molina started behind the plate because he is now officially Mike Mussina’s (last nights starter) personal catcher. Mussina was 10-5 with a 3.45 ERA in 16 starts throwing to Molina. And, Molina’s Major League leading 24 caught stealings in 49 attempts is definitely a plus, along with his strong arm. With Posada on the DL earlier in this season, (shoulder injury) Molina’s arm would be better for catching base stealers.
But what can I say? The Yanks signed Posada this past winter for a big contract even though he is 36 turning 37 next month. The Yanks signed Posada to catch. Well, Posada finally let out that he is not satisfied, because he wants to catch. And Joe Girardi will let him.

Yeah i’d like to see Posada catching again. And yeah i agree Molina’s arm is great! He’ll be the catcher of the future for the Yanks.
….Cool.
Jorge rocks. He, Jeter, Rivera and Bernie complete the champs, along with Pettitte. Anyway, im sad giambino did not make it. the yanks better win tomorrow.
Well jorge will be catcher on sunday.
