As the Yanks battle their way in the Interleague games, I suppose I’ll write something about some trade rumors. The deadline is a little more than a month away, so Brian Cashman had better make some good deals. Missing out on Johan Santana and keeping the worst of the “Big Three” (Phil Hughes, to be exact) is extremely stupid. George Steinbrenner should let Hal or Hank make the decisions…, jeez. Anyway, the C.C. Sabathia rumors are still one of the hottest talks going on in the trade market. Based on ESPN, Brian Cashman is talking every day on the phone. Well, he’d better be talking to the Indians, or maybe the Mariners since Seattle is having a garage sale, unloading anything that isn’t bolted to their clubhouse floor.
SENSIBLE TRADE RUMORS
Since Mr. Steinbrenner is prepared to offer millions to Johan Santana in the offseason, acquiring Sabathia and signing him to a long term deal seems pretty good to me. Sure, C.C. is having a down year, but due to last year’s wicked record, Cy Young award, and beating up the Yanks pretty badly in Game 1 of the AL Division Series, Sabathia is still considered the best prize New York could get. The Yanks should make a HUGE RUN AT HIM. Curt Schilling went to the Red Sox even though he said he only considers the Yankees and Phillies are targets. Same thing could happen to Mr. Sabathia. Acquiring a lefty, young ace will sure boost the rotation, especially if Mr. Mussina and Mr. Pettitte leaves at the end of the season.
MARK TEXEIRA
Mr. Texeira will become a free agent at the end of the season, and I know we’d all like to have him. If Giambino leaves, the Yanks better make a run at Tex and offer him a huge deal, similiar to the deal the Astros gave Carlos Lee. Having Texeira and C.C. Sabathia would make the Yankees contenders for sure. The Yanks could also make a run at Adam Dunn, the slugger who smacks a load of homers but “dislikes baseball” as Toronto’s GM said. No offense at Dunn, I actually view him as one of the best sluggers in the NL. The Yankees could get him to replace Abreu, if some other team lures him away.
That’s all for today!! Oh, by the way, more names include:
Erik Bedard, Mariners…Bronson Arroyo, Reds (I doubt the Yankees would want him after giving up 10 runs in 1 something innings)…Brian Roberts, Orioles…Ichiro Suzuki, Mariners…(Now the Yanks better make a run at Mr. Suzuki! Especially if they include youngster Melky Cabrera in some deal to snag Sabathia!)…Ken Griffey, Jr., Reds…and way more people. I expect the Yanks to make lots of roster moves this offseason, and sign some good closers, and release Misters Farnsworth-less and Pavano. Kerry Wood would make a good setup man for good ol’ Mariano.
